My friend and colleague, Paul Tafolla, recently wrote a really great piece on the topic of casino puns.
So we have a pun for every possible game. In particular, we have a pun for every possible card game. There’s a pun for every poker game, every blackjack game, and a pun for every video game.
Paul has a pun for every card game and game and a pun for every casino game (except video games). In one of our earlier articles we wrote about the potential link between casino gambling and the gambling addiction. And this week, casino gaming in the U.S. is actually more common than ever. The number, according to the National Survey of American Casino Gambling, is almost twice the size of the number of U.S.
Gaming has become so popular and it’s so easy to get started that people are simply doing it more and more. As a result, casinos may be a magnet for people who gamble more heavily than they used to. It also makes it easy to get into gambling, even if you never get addicted to it. It’s not uncommon for people to learn the ropes first and then play at live tables.
However, it doesn’t end there. The National Survey of American Casino Gambling found that gambling is now as much a part of the American lifestyle as a vacation, even if you don’t actually stay there. A majority of American adults (61%) have gambled in the past year, and that’s likely higher than it was a decade ago.
This is a fairly new phenomenon, but it’s also a very common one. A whopping 74% of our survey respondents reported that gambling is a new hobby, and only 16% said that they had never gambled. Even when we take into account that those who have gambled tend to be younger and more affluent than those who have never gambled.
A similar phenomenon is found in the United Kingdom. Almost half of us (45%) have gambled in the last year, and 35% have done so in the last month. In the UK, many people gamble to supplement their income, but also for fun. Most of us (71%) who have gambled will admit that it’s fun, but also that it’s just part of a much bigger lifestyle.
Yes, gambling can be fun, but it can also be a serious business. As many gamblers know, the average British bankroll is about $1700, but this doesn’t have to be your whole bankroll. We can also bet on sports, poker, and other games. So as long as we’re not doing it to make a living, gambling is fair game, as long as we’re not cheating.
It is a game of numbers and the odds are not always evenly stacked. The most common betting methods involve placing a bet on the number of cards dealt. But there are some people who can spot which of their opponents are cheating, and they can place a bet on the probability of winning that bet. The majority of gamblers, whether they are professional or amateur, know that if they are betting on the cards, they are cheating.
